There are a lot of tea brands out there. Many are good — but we’ve found the best. Below are eight green teas that have not only met or exceeded our ‘greener’ standards for social and environmental responsibility, but have also been received positively by the public for their taste and quality. For this aspect, we assessed customer reviews and added only green tea products that are ranked four stars or above. Each of the selected teas possess their own value — some are crafted with premium, certified organic ingredients, while others are Fair Trade certified and so support responsible sourcing techniques. Of course, some of the teas possess both of these exemplary qualities. In addition to the teas themselves, the brands whom create these products demonstrate their own forms of conscious production. Frontier Natural Products Co-op offers natural and organic teas, spices and seasonings. Their sustainable practices range from their agricultural activities and processing, to packaging and shipping. They are part of the Bonneville Environmental Foundation Green Tag Program and EPA Green Power Partnership Program, which promote carbon offsetting. They also follow Fair Trade and Well Earth policies which ensure ethical and safe labor conditions. Frontier established The Frontier Foundation to support social, educational and environmental causes. They embody what it means to be an environmentally-friendly and socially responsible company. Moreover, Newman’s Own, as part of the Newman’s Own Foundation, has given, as of the end of 2015,  over $450 million to a diverse selection of charities and organization. Greener Square started from a desire to solve the problem of uninformed and unsustainable consumerism, a determination to peel back the label and make healthy, socially and environmentally responsible brands and products easily accessible…it started from a reverence for the environment! Our inspiration came from the market square: a place where people can find natural and locally crafted clothing, furniture and food, socialize with a like-minded community, and learn about how items are made directly from the vendors. So, what is Greener Square? It is a platform for conscious consumers, for products only from mindful brands that value people, animals and the planet. Greener Square is a source for information, a guide for informed and “greener” choices. It is the “greener” Market Square. It’s time for the Greener Movement. But, what is the ‘Greener Movement’, you ask? “Greener” is the next step in the “green” movement. If “green” means good for the environment, “greener” means good for the environment and the people. We feel there is often an experience of cognitive dissonance between actions that are ‘good for you’ and ‘good for the environment’. In other words, we found that when one sees or hears that something is said to be ‘good for the environment’–that it is sustainable, organic, or ethical, let’s say–one may mark said thing as being firstly beneficial for the natural world and secondly for people, or their individual health. One may even think, “Oh, this thing or action is not right for me because I’m not engaged in sustainability.” But, it is right and good for you! We promise! The mission of Greener Square is to blur this damaging line and make clear that practices and products that are environmentally responsible are innately good for you, as we humans are part of the ecological fabric of the planet. If we do what’s right and healthy for nature, we do what’s right and healthy for oneself and others. We believe this is a cause to get behind! A good ‘movement’ to get behind — a Greener Movement!
